Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits to having a 64 Slice CT Scan?
The imaging technology of the 64 Slice Ct Scan is amazing and will allow your doctor to know things about the health of your heart that previously required an invasive procedure like a catheterization.
Is a CT scan safe?
The CT Scan has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as being safe and effective. Nearly 50 million CT Scans are performed in the United States each year.
What is a CT Scan?
CT stands for “computed tomography.” It is a combination of x-rays aided by computers. The scan obtains two-dimensional images of your heart (or other organs) and with the help of a computer, is able to provide a detailed, comprehensive, three-dimensional view.
What happens during a Ct Scan?
When you arrive for your exam, you will be given a gown to change into (your body is always fully covered during the scan). After changing into the gown, you will lie down on a padded table which has a large, doughnut-shaped device attached at one end. You will receive an IV injection of a dye to better contrast your arteries and surrounding tissues. During the actual scan, you will be asked to lie very still and to hold your breath for a few seconds to minimize any movement. You may hear some humming noises but there is no pain. The whole procedure is over very quickly. The actual scan takes just a few seconds.
How much does it cost? Will insurance cover it?
The cost will vary depending on a number of factors, i.e., which part of the country you live, local standards, etc., but will generally be around $800. It is generally not covered by insurance but that may be changing. Be sure to check with your insurance company.
